Stephen Amberg was awarded the Ph.D. in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987. His areas of research are in comparative labor, employment and social policy, American political development, social learning processes, and Pragmatist action theory. He was the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in American Studies at the Center for the Study of the Americas at Copenhagen Business School in 2009 – 2010.

He has taught at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Simmons College, the New School, and the Copenhagen Business School. Recent courses include Comparative Political Economy, Race and American Political Development, Political Creativity, Experiments in Democratic Renewal, Political Movements, Comparative Welfare States, and American Politics. He team-teaches a course called Black Lives Matter.

Amberg serves on the boards of the ACLU of Texas and the Mahncke Park Neighborhood Association in San Antonio.
